What is Nutrition North?
Our customers who live up north know how expensive the shipping costs are. That’s why Saslove’s is a proud participant in Canada’s Nutrition North program (NNC). This program helps give the territories access to nutritious food. How does it do that? Nutritious food is given a subsidy that’s passed on to the customer as a discount. But only participating retailers can provide this subsidy – retailers like Saslove’s!
How does it work?
Nutrition North has a list of items that qualify for the subsidy. These are mostly food items, but also include non-food essentials like diapers and hand soap. Some items receive higher subsidy rates than others. Customers in northern communities can order with Saslove’s and we will discount the subsidy from your total. We provide an invoice for each customer detailing the food cost, shipping cost, and subsidy amount.
What items qualify for the subsidy?
All of Saslove’s meat products qualify for the subsidy. Dog bones and marinated items, though, do not qualify. All items are shipped frozen. For more information, consult Nutrition North’s public list here.
Do I qualify for the Nutrition North subsidy?
Most of our northern customers are from Iqaluit, but there are many other communities that qualify for the subsidy. Curious about whether or not your community qualifies? Consult the NNC’s list of communities.
